Services fell at 9 p.m. and were resumed around 3 a.m. Social media companies later released a statement claiming they were aware of the issue with some users not being able to use Facebook, WhatsApp or Instagram. It is believed that it was a DNS issue that caused the global outage. During the hiatus, Facebook shares fell 4.9%. More than 75,000 people have complained about WhatsApp, with 43% citing problems with the program itself, 28% citing difficulties in transmitting messages and 28% citing problems connecting to the server.
